It
is my great privilege, on behalf of the City of the Angels Film Festival
Planning Team, to welcome you to the 2000 Festival. Our previous
six events have provided pleasurable viewing and provocative discussions
of significant films. We believe this year's menu of cinematic treats will
have a similar flavor. We are pleased you have decided to join us given
the plethora of cultural choices available to you in this fantastic city
of Los Angeles. Your participation and satisfaction are important to us
and we value your support and investment in this exciting enterprise.
The 2000 Festival planning team has proposed Road Trip!: Moving With the Spirit as our theme. This is the first time we have used a single genre as a guide to the slate of films. The distance intrinsic in road trip films generates energy to ponder the spiritual migration many of us can't or won't escape. The persistent questions of God; meaning in the cosmos; the good life and good society; faith/hope/love necessitate a kind of pilgrimage, a border-crossing journey on the road - moving with the Spirit! We anticipate the ride will be unforgettable as we discover something new about ourselves, our culture and discern the Sacred in everyday mobility, in mysterious destinations. We are exceedingly grateful to the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles and their Lloyd C. Douglas Committee for partnering with us and organizing several workshops available to the public. The presenters associated with the seminars will supply crucial content to assist our conversations about faith and film. Our festival team is also very pleased that we have several continuing sponsors and also special new partners. We appreciate the collaborative effort and financial contributions each organization has so generously brought to this project. The cultural niche and spiritual energy achieved by the festival is the result of dedicated individuals and cooperative institutions committed to that most complex and gorgeous art form: Film; in that most subversive and sublime of cities: Los Angeles; in humble recognition and relentless gratitude to that most loving Creator: God. I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the City of the Angels Film Festival design and planning team whose talent and charity are unparalleled. Their donations of time and resources make this a joyous activity. I would like to thank and commend the many volunteers who give efficiency and sparkle to the production of this event. Come and enjoy the picture show! Scott
