REEL SPIRITUALITY
In the beginning, (before five hundred
channel, high definition televisions), was the Word. Yet, the avalanche
of moving images emanating from Hollywood has many reaching for a permanent
pause button. Parents are worried about what their kids are watching.
Teens are barraged by conflicting notions of what’s "normal." Pastors
have a single hour on Sunday to compete with a 24/7 multi-media onslaught.
How will we process the myriad of movies
coming our way? What happens when film and television become the
21st century’s primary meaning makers? How should people of faith and conscience
respond?
Fuller Theological Seminary offers a one
day "Master Class’* dedicated to visual literacy — equipping today’s ministers
to understand tomorrow’s movies. Experience the best of Fuller’s "Theology
and Film” class taught by an array of church and media professionals. You
will discover the power of story, the complicated history of the Church
and Hollywood, how to ‘unpack’ a film, how movie ‘magic’ can enhance the
worship experience, and how to become ‘reel’ theologians. Bring your notebook,
bring your Bible, bring your popcorn to ‘Reel Spirituality 101’.
