Justice. On the surface, it seems to be a natural human right. We all deserve it. But what is it? Justice can be defined as the proper ordering of things and persons within a society. Or - everybody gets what they deserve. But who decides? This concept of justice, or the proper ordering of things and people, is subject to serious debate - philosophical, theological, legal. It has broken apart families and started wars. It has shattered the world, for the many and for each individual.

If we can get to a place where we at least agree on certain inalienable human rights, then we can begin to discuss what justice demands of us as individuals and of society in general. How can weath and resources be distributed properly and fairly in order to ensure justice?

We all want justice. There is a divine inspiration for it. And yet, for the world at large and for individuals, it seems a very daunting thing to put into practice. What does justice look like? How do we balance the needs of one versus the needs of many? How can one person fight the entrenched, systemic absence of justice? The devil, evidently, is in the details...

In a country and culture that pledges allegiance to the concept, how well are we doing? This year’s City of the Angels Film Festival asks the question: is there justice for all? Regardless of race, beliefs, age, sex: does equal fair treatment and due reward in accordance to merit actually exist? Should it? Through eight compelling stories, both audience and filmmaker will be asked to consider: what is our responsibility in the absence of Justice?

We invite you to weigh in as we explore justice through the powerful works of world class filmmakers at our 14th Annual City of the Angels Film Festival.
