Film is a medium that allows us to transcend boundaries of time.  Because of this, filmmakers have been experiencing the throes of ‘millennium fever’ since stories first began unspooling on the screen.  The future and all the fears and excitement that accompanies it has always been a present reality in the movies.  Through the ‘what if’ premise of the filmmaker we all have been able to envision humanity in the world of tomorrow.  This year’s festival will celebrate the courage of those filmmakers who took their fears in hand, and led us forth into the shadows on the horizon.

Through the prophetic vision of the filmmakers, this year’s selection of films depicts an experience of trauma, personal and social upheaval, and the real possibility of revelation.  For most of us, the interior violence of personal challenges and transition will be the only apocalypse we will ever know.  As members of a society peeking anxiously over the brink of the new millennium, we trust each of us come away from this festival with new insights about ourselves and our world that can take us into the future with a new hope.
