1999 Luminosa Award For Unity

Now in its 11th year, the Luminosa Award is presented to individuals who significantly impact culture for the good, through excellence in media.  This years honorees are:

Patt and Jack Shea

Patt Shea, President, Catholics In Media Associates
Mrs. Shea is a veteran writer and producer whose career is sprinkled with some of the most seminal moments in U.S. television history.  Her credits include All In The Family, Archie Bunker’s Place, Lou Grant, Happy Days, The Jeffersons, Cagney and Lacey and The Golden Girls.  She is the recipient of numerous awards, and has been a three-time finalist for the Humanitas Prize.

Jack Shea, President, Directors Guild of America
One of the creative minds responsible for the founding and growth of the City of the Angels Film Festival, Mr. Shea is one of the entertainment industry’s most respected leaders.  He has served several terms as governor of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and his directing credits include The Bob Hope Show, Hawaii 5-0, The Waltons, Sanford and Son, Silver Spoons, and The Jeffersons.  Mr. Shea received an Emmy nomination for Designing Women and between television assignments has directed two motion pictures:  Dayon’s Devils and Good Behavior.
 

Also in attendance at this year’s Luminosa Award reception are the following special guests:

His Eminence Cardinal William Keeler, Archbishop of Baltimore 
Cardinal Keeler’s ministry has focused much on media and its relationship to the larger society.  He is a consultant to the Committee for Communications of the United States Catholic Conference and serves on the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity; the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, and the International Liaison Committee of Catholics and Jews. 

His Excellency, Archbishop John P. Foley
President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, Archbishop Foley oversees all communications efforts involving the Vatican as well as maintaining contact with international religious and secular communications organizations.  He holds degrees in philosophy and journalism.
 

The Luminosa Award will be presented by Julian Ciabattini and Sharry Silvi, the National Directors of the Focolare Movement.
